What’s new in PixelBureau

PixelBureau moves fast. Here is everything that changed, newest first.

  1. Your profile, your status and your desks

    • “My profile” opens a status panel: “Available”, “Busy” or “Away”, with what each one does. “Busy” turns off nearby conversations and secondary notifications, except in a meeting room.
    • A profile photo, shown round in the bar, call tiles and “Here”, with your name and time zone, in “Settings › Profile”.
    • “Background effects” for the camera, in the bar and in “Settings › Video”.
    • “Back to my desk”, at the end of the bar (⌘D on a Mac, Ctrl+D on Windows); without an assigned desk, “Choose a desk”.
    • “Desk assignment” for admins: assign desks on the map, then publish. People are notified when a desk is assigned to them or taken away.
  2. All your settings in one place

    • “Settings” opens on top of the space, without leaving it (⌘, on a Mac, Ctrl+, on Windows): General, Account and security, Mini window, Audio, Video, Meetings, Notifications and Performance.
    • For admins, the “Administration” part gathers General, Members, Guests, Floors and map, Conversations, Chat, Billing and Security.
    • “Saver”, in “Settings › Performance”, lightens PixelBureau for older laptops; it can turn on by itself when the battery is low.
  3. The mini window

    • “Mini window” (Chrome and Edge): the people here and the call in a small window, on top of your other apps.
  4. Guests from outside

    • Invite a client, a candidate or a contractor for the length of a meeting: a guest link, with no account and no paid seat, from “Settings › Guests”.
    • The guest goes straight into the chosen room and stays there, with no chat. Members see them in “Here”, under “Guests”.
    • The link is valid for 24 h, with 5 guests at most at the same time, and “Revoke” sends them out right away.
  5. Floor and walls in the map editor

    • “Floor and walls”, a new editor tool: paint floors with the “Brush”, the “Rectangle” or all at once with “Fill”, and draw walls that join up on their own. The “Eraser” removes a wall, and the walls next to it join up again.
    • Materials as thumbnails, grouped by family (wood, tiles, carpet, brick…), and an eyedropper on right-click.
    • Copy and paste, “Undo” and “Redo”, and selecting several objects at once.
    • “Composite furniture”: ready-made sets (workstation, desk cluster, meeting table, sofa corner…) placed in one click.
    • “Before you publish”: the editor flags what will get in the team’s way, such as an assigned desk you changed.
  6. Sign in your way, with two-factor authentication

    • Sign in your way: a password or an emailed link. One person, one account, whichever door you use.
    • Your account, well guarded: turn on two-factor authentication (code from your authenticator app, 1Password included), with recovery codes and a code by email as a fallback. Admins can require it for the whole team.
    • “Devices”, in “Settings › Account and security”: see where you’re signed in and sign out a forgotten device remotely.
    • Before a sensitive action (security, subscription, owner, deleting the space), PixelBureau checks it’s you, then won’t ask again for 15 minutes.
  7. Notifications and Saver mode

    • Install PixelBureau like an app in one click from your browser, and get notified when a teammate waves or messages you, even when the tab is in the background.
    • Set the volume of each teammate in a call; background noise is turned down by your browser’s noise reduction (on by default, in the microphone options).
    • “Saver”, in “Settings › Performance”, for older laptops: animations paused, fewer frames per second, no blur.
  8. A map editor and a cleaner screen

    • Map editor for admins: place furniture, meeting rooms and desks, paint floors and walls, then publish. Every version is kept.
    • Sit on chairs.
    • A cleaner screen: no more header, the people list and chat on the right, a floating minimap, zoom from 100% to 300% and a draggable map.
    • Your own camera in the bottom bar, a microphone level, and emoji reactions shown above your character.
  9. English, several spaces, and the Team plan

    • PixelBureau speaks English and French: everyone chooses their language in “Settings › General”.
    • One person, several spaces: switch between teams from the badge at the top left.
    • Space settings: roles, removing someone, the owner, the space name, data export and deleting the space.
    • The Team plan: pay online by card or SEPA direct debit, with VAT handled by country and invoices in your billing portal.
    • A welcome guide on your first visit, and a character editor to make your character look like you.
    • A single bottom bar for your microphone, camera, screen sharing, reactions and chat.
  10. Chat, search and calls that feel like the office

    • Chat: reactions, attachments (image previews) and “[name] is typing…”.
    • Wave at a colleague, follow them through the office, lock a conversation, raise your hand.
    • ⌘K search for colleagues and rooms; a minimap; assigned desks.
    • Double-click (or tap) anywhere to walk there.
    • Dark mode, background blur, connection quality on each video, and “Mute everyone” for admins.
  11. The first open space

    • Sign in with a link sent by email: no password.
    • A pixel-art office where you see your colleagues in real time, with their status.
    • Proximity video: walk up to someone to talk, walk away to hang up. Microphone and camera are off whenever you’re not talking.
    • A check screen before entering: camera preview, microphone level and device choice.
    • Meeting rooms, desks and a quiet corner; screen sharing; team chat and direct messages.
